FRIDAY, AUGUST 29TH
Captains, Mates, + Widows
Portraits By Sabina Streeter
Curated by Dan Rizzie, Sound Installation by Carlos Lama

Sabina Streeter brings the storied era of the Sag Harbor whaling history to life in her show "Captains, Mates, and Widows" on view at the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum, August 29 through September 14, 2014.

Sabina Streeter's portraits in charcoal and mixed media feature the mid-19th Century whaling captains who reigned as the financial, political and cultural leaders of the eastern seaboard in their day. Along with Nantucket and New Bedford, Sag Harbor was one of the three capitals of the whaling industry during the peak years between 1829 and 1847.
