150 active and honorary members of the fire department had a clambake at Tindall’s grove on the afternoon of Sunday, August 22. An added attraction was a horseshoe throwing contest between Hoinie Becker and Ed Zelner, the Connecticut champion. The latter won. Zelner issued a challenge to all comers. There was also a baseball game between the Freaks and the Frights. The former won, 17 to 2. At a meeting held on Monday, August 23 at the Jermain Memorial Library an exhibition of paintings was planned to open for the week beginning September 6. The paintings would be the work of local artists, the first exhibition of its kind. The place the exhibition was to be held would be announced later. Fire razed the one-story schoolhouse on North Haven on Thursday night. Apparatus from Sag Harbor responded but could not save the structure. It is said that a party of young folks were having a party earlier in the evening in the vestibule and it is supposed that embers from a dropped match or cigarette caused the blaze. The school had not been in use for four or five years. North Haven pupils, who numbered about 30, were instead conveyed by bus to and from Pierson High School.
