Main Street

A disturbance was caused on Main Street last Monday afternoon when August Gunther and his wife Rose of Nyack Road each sought a warrant for the arrest of the other. Justice Corwin refused both warrants on the grounds that the case was no more than a family squabble. Before a crowd as large as had witnessed a Sunday game for the season, George Dipple's Pirates swamped Heinie Becker's Bearcats to the score of 14 to 2 on Friday night. Twilight baseball was going over big according to attendance at the games. It was hoped fans would continue to attend as the boys promised to play better ball as the season went on. The village trustees at their meeting Tuesday evening adopted a resolution protesting against the plan of holding a special election on August 17 to vote on a road bond proposition. All taxpayers who wished to vote were required to travel to Southampton. This disenfranchised virtually all of Sag Harbor's taxpayers who could not afford to take the necessary time from their work. The trustees ordered the circulation of a petition, asking the town board to either hold the voting by districts or postpone the election until the general election in November.
