Main Street Plaza

The Bohack Company, a chain of grocery stores originating in New York City in 1887, leased the Peter Pappas Store on the West Side of Main Street. Possession was scheduled to be taken on July 1,1926. Never before had Long Islanders been as aroused as they were over the movement of the Long Island Association to "Tell the World About Long Island." The unprecedented enthusiasm was due largely to the belief residents had in the communities in which they made their homes. The Long Island Association promoted that it was time that the world should be told about Long Island, not by word of mouth alone, but by vigorous advertising that would carry information of the splendid features of the island to every nook and corner of the earth. Several thousand dollars was subscribed in an initial fund to carry on the work of the association in inaugurating the movement. Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Murphy of Bay Street were agreeably surprised Sunday evening when several of their friends and relatives called to spend the evening with them, the occasion being the birthday anniversary of Mrs. Murphy. Refreshments were served and a program including recitations and impersonations was rendered in a most pleasant manner.
