World War 1 Soldiers

Capt. J. H. McCourt M. R. C. of Chelberg and Battle Post, American Legion of Sag Harbor was notified of a shipment of two German Maxim Machine Guns with bipods captured from the enemy during the World War. They were expected to arrive in Sag Harbor before Memorial Day and were being shipped in the same condition received from the firing line. Through the courtesy of H. W. Dimon, local telephone representative in Southampton, the students and the faculty of Pierson High School, listened Thursday afternoon to an interesting lecture by A.P. Nielson of the lecture bureau of the New York telephone company. The subject was “Telephone Courtesy of a Business Assistant.” Mr. Nielson emphasized the value of preparation and showed how indispensable courtesy is to success of young men and women who are about to begin business careers. Business so greatly increased with the firm of Thompson and Osborne Inc., in their furniture and household furnishing department, that an addition to their new building was needed immediately. When the old store was modernized and enlarged after the death of Mr. Thompson, it was thought ample floor space had been provided to meet speed of growth for almost a decade. Now a one-story addition was required. Frank Havens of Bridgehampton was contracted to do the mason work, and the carpentry work would be done by Garypie Bros. of Sag Harbor.
